ACT Health is seeking nominations for suitable persons to be appointed to the Medicines Advisory Committee (MAC).
The MAC is an independent statutory body established under the Medicines, Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Act 2008. The MAC’s responsibilities include providing advice to the Chief Health Officer on complex clinical and policy matters involving the supply of medicines, in the ACT. The MAC’s primary focus is on the prescribing of controlled medicines, with the aim of minimising harms associated with the abuse, misuse and dependency to these medicines.
Pursuant to the Medicines, Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Regulation 2008, the MAC consists of one consumer representative. ACT Health is seeking nominations for an upcoming vacancy for a consumer representative from 13 February 2018. Committee members may be appointed for a term of up to three years.
ACT Health ran an initial expressions of interest round for the Committee appointment(s) in late 2017. However, calls for expressions of interest for the consumer vacancy are being extended to a broader range of consumer groups, including those of the alcohol, tobacco and other drug sector, with the aim to bring relevant consumer engagement and experience to the committee.
Expressions of interest for Committee appointment should be accompanied by a current curriculum vitae and any supporting statements for consideration by the Minister of Health.
Expressions of interest should be forwarded by Friday 26 January 2018 to:
Health Protection Service
Locked Bag 5005
Weston Creek ACT 2611
Any questions regarding Committee appointment processes should be directed to the Health Protection Service on (02) 6205 1700 or email@example.com
