This course aimed at equipping Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) workers with an understanding of the forms of Amphetamine-Type Stimulants (ATS) used, patterns and prevalence of misuse, pharmacology, signs and symptoms of ATS use, withdrawal and toxicity. The course also covered mental health and ATS, harm reduction and easy-to-use screening tools based on a Motivational Interviewing framework.

Successful completion of the AOD Skill Set (or its predecessor the 4 Core Competencies) is a requirement of all workers in specialist ACT ATOD services (funded or delivered by ACT Health) who directly provide ATOD services to clients (e.g. assessments, counselling, group work, case work), as outlined in the ACT ATOD Qualification Strategy.
To complete the AOD Skill Set, workers must undertake 4 core units from the Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drug Work. Upon successful completion of the AOD Skill Set, each worker will be provided with a nationally-recognised Statement of Attainment.
In 2017, there will be two rounds of AOD Skill Set training open to ACT ATOD services workers.
Workers who have previously undertaken the 4 Core Competencies are not required to undertake the AOD Skill Set.
